Photo of: West of Ireland: Sligo: Lough Arrow.
A view of Lough Arrow towards evening on a very calm day.
The small island in the foreground is a crannog or crannoge (crannogs are small artificial islands dating from pre-historic to medieval times; the name comes from the Irish word crann, meaning tree, so that crannog means small tree).
Lough Arrow is one of the most beautiful lakes in the area. It is overlooked by a wonderful and very important megalithic site called Carrowkeel. The burial site is on the Bricklieve Mountain (the slope of the mountain can be seen in the left background with Annaghgowla Island in front).
