Photo of: West of Ireland: Sligo: Ben Bulben.

This is a lovely image of Ben Bulben (or Benbulbin) viewed from the south, standing sentry over a field of bluebells dotted by mossy rocks and hawthorn trees.

Yeats is burried in Drumcliff cemetery nearby. This extraordinary mountain was immortalised by his poem 'Under Bare Bulben', written before his death. The final stanza of the poem is engraved on his headstone:

'Under bare Ben Bulben's head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross.
No marble, no conventional phrase;
On limestone quarried near the spot
By his command these words are cut:

Cast a cold eye
On life, on death.
Horseman, pass by!'
